Fall Fun… and Some Racing.

My last post was about dropping out of Run Rabbit Run 100. At no point did I ever question my decision to drop out and it never really affected me on any level. The only frustrating part was not using the fitness I worked hard to obtain over the summer… but on the upside I didn’t need to recover and could enjoy my favorite season, Fall, out on the trails. My motivation to run has been at an all time high since then. My training for RRR was pretty conservative on the running front and I never felt like I was… Read more →

Run Rabbit Run Race (quitting) Report

I’ll get straight to it and post a more detailed report down below if you want to know the details. I dropped out of Run Rabbit Run 100 at mile 43… Far from my goals or what I envisioned. I don’t necessarily like the use “DNF” (did not finish). I made a conscious decision to  quit… I’m good with that. It’s for sure a bummer, especially when I worked so hard, but life will go on and I’m not dwelling on it. I have too much good going on in my life to worry about a bad race. I’ll live to fight… Read more →

Goals for Run Rabbit Run 100

Well it’s race week! After 4 years I finally made it here and Friday I’ll be toeing the line at my first 100 miler. I’m 100% healthy and haven’t even had a little niggle or anything all summer which is a great feeling. I believe that’s 100% due to my more balanced approach to training. I definitely don’t feel over cooked. Before I get into my goals I have to say thank you to my amazing wife, Maggie. None of this would be possible without her support and encouragement of me chasing these goals. We both work hard to train… Read more →

Training for Run Rabbit Run 100

I’ve touched a bit on my training this summer in my post before the Leadville Silver Rush Races in “Summer Racing”. That build up lead to some really good races for me. Like I wrote about in my last post my goal for my 100 mile training was to stay healthy and just get to the start line… with that said I also wanted to show up fit and be able to run well. So my training wasn’t over the top… or too conservative… at least in my opinion. I for sure could have picked and easier 100 to make… Read more →

Getting to the Start Line

Two weeks from today I’ll be on the starting line of the Run Rabbit Run 100 miler and I couldn’t be more stoked. Getting to the start line of a 100 miler has been 4+ years in the making for me. The seed was planted in me back in May of 2012 when I paced one of my best friends, Slater, at the inaugural Zion 100. It was for sure a life changing experience and came at a time in my life when I needed something to light a fire in me. That was a huge turning point in my life.… Read more →

Running 100 Miles

I really can’t believe September is just around the corner and in about 2.5 weeks I’ll be toeing the line at Run Rabbit Run… my first 100 miler. The weekend up in Leadville definitely slapped me in the face with how real it’s getting and was a good reminder of what I’ve gotten myself into. We had another rad long weekend in Leadville and have a had blast racing up there all summer. I know people may give the Leadville Race Series some flack for things that have happened in the past but they put on incredible races. The organization,… Read more →

Silver King Race Report

I am going to try to keep this short and sweet… well as short as I can with two races to recap. When everything seems to go right on race day(s) that seems to be a bit easier. As I wrote about in my blog right before the race my run training leading into the Silver Rush 50s was a little less than ideal. However I’ve never been the kind of athlete that lets that kind of stuff get to me or cause me to doubt myself. I love to race and I’ve always been able to dig deep on… Read more →

Summer Racing

summer is in full swing… and I haven’t posted in quite some time. that’s mostly because I was afraid my blog was bad luck but since tomorrow is race day I thought it would be ok to post a little something. we have been loving the summer heat and spending a lot of time outdoors… training, racing, and just having fun. getting Fi in the pool and out on bike rides has been so awesome. she just loves being outside. as far as bad luck… the day i last posted i felt an all-to-familiar feeling my right shin after an… Read more →

Refining the Plan

The past few months have flown by. As is the norm life has been full blast but it’s been awesome. Work has been busy with a couple of trips back east but that project is now over was completed with awesome results. Training has been going well for both Maggie and I and I’ve dialed things in as far as my training and racing go. All through January my mind was constantly filled with how I was going to fit in all the training for riding and running to get ready for my summer races. My plan then was to… Read more →

Getting It Done

I’m so proud of my wife. After giving birth our amazing daughter and not racing for 16 months she ripped the Surf City Marathon in Huntington beach a month ago… and she’s just getting started. The reason I’m so proud of her is not just because she trained hard and had a good race. It’s because how patient she was coming back from pregnancy. In this day and age it seems like it’s a competition for women to see how quickly they can race and how much training they can get in right after having kids. It’s all over social media.… Read more →
